           It is finally here!

           Our April support group meeting is in hybrid mode!  Please join your fellow support group members either virtually or in person at 1:00 PM this Saturday, April 20. Our speaker will be Colleen Stoyas from UCB who will discuss the new drug, Rystiggo, for generalized Myasthenia Gravis.

          We will meet at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 7180 Hemlock Lane, Maple Grove, MN  55369.  The church is located very near the freeway intersections of 494/694/94 in the northwest suburbs, heading towards St. Cloud.  The Arbor Lakes Shopping area is a few blocks from the church. 

           More specific directions:  using either 94 south (from the St. Cloud area), 694 west (from Minneapolis/St. Paul and northern suburbs), or 494 (from Plymouth/Eden Prairie/Bloomington), stay on 694.  At Exit 28 on 694 (either east or west bound), turn left.  The church is just past the Perkins (on your left), about 2 blocks.  Please enter the facility through Door 2.   Signs will be posted to direct you.  A funeral luncheon will most likely be occurring in our hall so don’t worry if there are a few cars in the parking lot.  Once inside Door 2, proceed to the hallway on your right.  We will be in classroom #2, which will be on your right.

Our guest speakers from UCB Pharmacy will discuss the new U.S. Food and Drug Administration approved RYSTIGGO® (rozanolixizumab-noli) for the treatment of generalized myasthenia gravis (gMG) in adult patients who are anti-acetylcholine receptor (AChR) or anti-muscle-specific tyrosine kinase (MuSK) antibody positive.1

Omar Sinno MD, MBA is the U.S. Medical Strategy Lead for Rare Disease at UCB.  He is a physician by training and moved from clinical medicine into the early-stage start-up world with a focus on neuromuscular disease. 

Since joining UCB in July 2020, his primary focus has been setting the strategic medical direction for UCB’s rare disease pipeline and portfolio, including the development and commercialization of two assets for the treatment of generalized myasthenia gravis.  Omar is committed to helping advance unique solutions for people living with rare diseases. His hometown is Chicago, and he currently resides in Atlanta.

Ericka V. Hylick, Pharm.D. is a Patient Advocacy Liaison in Rare Disease with focus on gMG at UCB. She is a pediatric pharmacist by training and education. After working as a hospital and academic pharmacist for the first portion of her career, Ericka moved over to the pharmaceutical industry almost ten years ago. She has since been dedicated to medical education, health education and corporate affairs efforts that improve patient experience, access, and education. In her role, she is a dedicated east coast field-based resource assigned to gather, understand, and work to minimize the educational gaps for HCP’s, patients, and caregivers living in the gMG community.

Saturday July 16, 2022 is our monthly support group meeting, this month our meeting will be hosted by Pete, who will lead the group in discussing “Grateful, Blessed, and Thankful”.

Just in case you are a scanner like me and don’t make it to the end of the email, please thank Pete for being brave enough to take on the meeting!

In thinking about a topic for the monthly meeting, my mind turned to recent events in my life.  I had recently tested positive for COVID-19, and was humbled by the love and support that I have received from my circle of family and friends.

So, I thought it may be a good time to really think about things that we feel Grateful, Thankful, and Blessed about. I won’t be present at the meeting, so in my absence I have my contribution to Saturday’s topic:

Grateful - I am truly grateful for the people in my life who really matter to me and who I matter to, and that I have an intense knowledge of it.  I have discovered that it’s not the quantity of people in your life, but the quality of the few.

Thankful - I always try to be thankful for the events that have led me here to this unique group of people with MG. How can I ever be thankful for having this weird little known disease? I have realized that I have met a lot of wonderful, caring people from all walks of life. My life has truly been enriched by this group.

Blessed -  I feel truly blessed for the love and support of my husband of over forty years, who has always been steadfast in his love and support of me. (Seriously, I mean it this time).

On April 16, we have a presentation from PicnicHealth. PicnicHealth can collect all your medical records and place them in one easy to access place to keep them organized. They also work in research for orphan diseases and are starting research in MG.

If you enter through the Administrative doors (parking lot on Ryan Street) go down the stairs (or use the elevator) to the church's gathering space, then proceed to Room 40 as directed above.

 BREAKING NEWS:  The October support group meeting will be gathering in person AND via Zoom this month – the first time since COVID reared its ugly head.

     We will gather, in person or through Zoom, at 1:00 P.M.  For those of you attending in person we will meeting at

Roseville Lutheran Church

     in the same room on the first floor, back of church complex.  The Zoom meeting will also be open shortly before 1:00 P.M. 

     For those of you attending in-person Roseville Lutheran requires mask wearing and social distancing.  Please do not attend in person if you do not feel comfortable with this mandate.

     This first hybrid meeting will be a bit clumsy.  The only screen that will be available to view those attending via Zoom will be my computer screen.  I will do my best to make the experience the best possible for everyone attending.  Hopefully, next month we will have a large screen or monitor.

     Since we have not been physically together for so long, we will catch up with everyone, and of course, welcome all new attendees.

     We look forward to seeing you this Saturday.  If you are having difficulty joining, please text me at 763-772-3634 rather than emailing me; I do not monitor my email when I am hosting a Zoom meeting.
